Mehnaz, one of Pakistan's most popular versatile singers is the daughter and disciple of her mother Kajjan Begum of Lucknow. This mother-daughter duo has specialized in bringing to an adoring public the folk music of Uttar Pradesh, India, namely horis, dadra, kajris and geets. Their repertoire has also featured compositions attributed to Amir Khusro, the 13th century Muslim mystic, poet and composer. Mehnaz has also recorded a large number of popular movie hits. Her slightly nasal but enchanting voice has been used by all frontline composers.
